Slum Lords in Las Vegas, Nevada

I apologize for the long absence, but I have not felt compelled to write anything until now. My readers will recall that I finally secured housing last June, and for a while things were wonderful. I guess you can call it the "honeymoon period". However, right before the holidays, things went south. When I first moved in, there was a female manager here who seemed to be nice enough. Then she disappeared, and a man took her place who also seemed to be nice enough, at first. Until he blamed me for something I did not do, and actually had the nerve to put a warning letter in my file. Until my septic backed up and, while the maintenance man admitted the plumbing problem was somewhere down the line away from my apartment, he simply snaked it until the toilet flushed and went on his way. That was about four months ago or so.

Last Friday, all hell broke loose. As I posted to the management company's Facebook page,

"HOW ABOUT THIS? My plumbing backed up Friday afternoon. Maintenance could not snake it, so a plumber came out. He tried to snake it but said the blockage was somewhere down the pipe away from the apartment and said he would come back Saturday with some other equipment to try and clear it out. I went to sleep. My neighbor woke me up at FOUR THIRTY IN THE MORNING pounding on my door. I could not hear what she was saying, so I jumped out of bed ready to cuss her out...AND LANDED IN WATER!!! THE. ENTIRE. APARTMENT. WAS. UNDER. WATER! The reason my neighbor was there is because it had overflowed into ANOTHER apartment!!! We managed to get the water up, and Ivy (manager) arranged for the plumber to arrive around 11:30, which he did. After putting a camera into the pipe, he showed me where tree roots have grown into the pipe and that obviously this was going to be a major job for which approval was needed. He told me to keep the water in the bathroom off except for occasionally flushing the toilet. He said I MIGHT be able to take a quick, two-minute shower, but that there is no guarantee it would not close back up and flood the apartment again. Fast forward to today...NO ONE CAME. Apparently management is worried about bids. FUCK the health code violations! I guess you people are independently wealthy and a few fines are no big deal for you. I have been MORE than patient. MORE than patient. MORE. THAN. PATIENT. TOMORROW, I call the health department and HUD so they can freeze payment to you until such time as you decide to LIVE UP TO YOUR END OF THE FUCKING LEASE!!!!!"

The explanation (if we can call it that) is the plumber did not send the video and work order on Saturday, but rather just before noon Monday. Then I find out that the plumber has to submit an estimate which has to be approved but only after whatever hoops get jumped through....

EXCUSE ME, BUT I CANNOT SHOWER. I CAN ONLY FLUSH MY TOILET A HANDFUL OF TIMES, AND I HAVE TO SLEEP WITH MY VALUABLES ON MY BED IN CASE I HAVE ANOTHER FLOOD! When I mentioned the damages I have incurred already, I was told to talk to my insurance company. APPARENTLY ADVANCED MANAGEMENT GROUP THINKS I HAVE $250 LYING AROUND TO PAY FOR DAMAGES THEY CAUSED!!!

Where in my lease does it say that, if the apartment becomes unsafe, I must wait while everyone goes through a bidding war and figures out what, if anything, they deign to do????????????????????????????????????????????????

Maybe I should sit around and make them wait until I figure out if I want to pay them rent next month?!

BOTTOM LINE: NEVER SHOULD ANYONE EVER lease an apartment whose management is "Advanced Management Group".

Meanwhile, maybe someone would be willing to take me to a truck stop and pay for me to take a shower, since these people clearly do not give a flying fuck?
